About Me
About Me
It was a career that I loved for a long time, but I had also frequently pondered the very segregated education system in the area where I grew up. The best school districts were bordered by the worst school districts. In fact, Fairfield County has the most severe income inequality in the country. Witnessing this from the inside deeply bothered me, which only grew worse after covering the state takeover of Providence Public Schools. Eventually, I decided that education was where I wanted to make an impact and I joined Teach For America, determined to make at least a small dent in the issues that plague Providence's school district. I realized I need for high-quality media literacy education and knew that I could provide a unique perspective as a journalist-turned-teacher. Throughout the school year, I have utilized many opportunities to teach my students how to view the news and every form of media they encounter with a critical eye. Having just finished my first year of teaching, I have only become more confident in my career transition as I've developed deep connections with the students I teach. I am excited to use many of the lessons from this course in my own teaching career this upcoming school year.
